Parent Organization: Lehigh Involvement Categories
Challah for Hunger is a national organization whose goal is to bring people together to bake challah bread and raise money and awareness for social justice issues. The money donated goes to two different charities: Mazon: A Jewish Response to Hunger and Meals on Wheels of the Lehigh Valley. On a national level at college campuses across the United States (44 in total), students get together and bake challah bread, sell this bread to students, and donate the proceeds: 50% to Mazon and the other 50% to a charity of their choice. Since the club has started, they have raised over $200,000 for non-governmental organizations and the Sudan REleif FinMazon
At Lehigh, this club works a little bit differently. We are working with Sodexo, dining services, and auxilliary services to prepare the challah bread for the student population. Students and faculty will order the bread and pick it up on a Friday at the end of the month. There is a $5 suggested donation for each loaf of challah, but people can feel free to donate more or less.
